Friday, Sept. 17
Depart United States
Group flight departs Minneapolis/St. Paul, probably around 3 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 18
Arrive Cologne (D)
Fly via Amsterdam to Cologne, probably arriving around 9:45 a.m. Transfer by private coach to the hotel to drop luggage. Walk a few blocks to the Dom, considered one of the world’s greatest cathedrals, for a guided tour. Return to the hotel for check-in and some free time. Pre-dinner discussion and group dinner at the hotel.
Sunday, Sept. 19
Cologne — Heidelberg (B, D)
Travel to St. Goar for a tour of the Rheinfels Castle ruins, one of the largest fortresses on the Rhine. Lunch on your own. Set sail in St. Goar on a river boat to view arguably the best section of the Rhine, disembarking in Bacharach for a wine tasting. Continue to Heidelberg for group dinner and overnight at Art Hotel.
Monday, Sept. 20
Heidelberg — Rothenburg ob der Tauber (B, D)
After breakfast, take a walking tour of the city center and the oldest university in Germany. Lunch on your own. Travel to Rothenburg for an afternoon walking tour of this medieval walled city. Group dinner and overnight at Hotel Eisenhut.
Tuesday, Sept. 21
Rothenburg — Munich (B, D)
Travel by private coach to Munich to experience Bavarian gemütlichkeit during Oktoberfest. Walking city tour. Pre-dinner seminar in the hotel breakfast room. Group dinner at the famous Hofbräuhaus. Overnight at Schlicker Hotel.
Wednesday, Sept. 22
Munich/Excursion to Dachau (B)
Travel by private coach for a guided tour of Dachau. Return to Munich around lunchtime for remainder of the day free with lunch and dinner on your own. Overnight at Schlicker Hotel.
Thursday, Sept. 23
Munich (B)
Full free day to enjoy Oktoberfest or many other options in the city.
Friday, Sept. 24
Munich — Oberammergau/Passion Play (B, L, D)
Travel by private coach to Oberammergau to attend the Passion Play. Group lunch, performance and dinner included.
Saturday, Sept. 25
Oberammergau — Füssen (B, D)
Travel by private coach to tour Neuschwanstein, the fairy tale castle built by Mad King Ludwig II. Transfer to nearby Füssen for lunch on your own and afternoon free. Pre-dinner seminar, group dinner and overnight at Hotel zum Hechten.
Sunday, Sept . 26
Füssen — Wittenberg (B)
A full day of traveling and short walking tours:
- Augsburg, with a wealth of Renaissance art and architecture
- Eisenach, birthplace of Bach and the location of Schloss Wartburg, where Luther translated the Bible
- Erfurt, where Luther went to university and the Augustinian monastery
Finish the day in Wittenberg.
Monday, Sept. 27
Wittenberg — Berlin (B, D)
Walking tour of Wittenberg before traveling to Berlin in time for pre-dinner seminar and group dinner.
Tuesday, Sept. 28
Berlin (B, L)
After breakfast and a seminar, guided coach tour of the city including Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, the Holocaust Memorial, the Kurfurstendamm, and Kaiser Wilhem Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church). Group lunch followed by a guided tour of the Pergamon Museum. Dinner on your own. Possible performance, pending as-yet-unpublished schedules.
Wednesday, Sept. 29
Berlin/Excursion to Potsdam (B, D)
Travel by train to Potsdam for a guided tour of the city. Lunch on your own in Potsdam. Return to Berlin in time for group dinner and possible performance.
Thursday, Sept. 30
Berlin (B)
Guided tours of the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin and Gemäldegalerie (Picture Gallery). Remainder of the day free with lunch and dinner on your own. Possible performance.
Friday, Oct. 1
Berlin (B, D)
Free day. Farewell group dinner.
Saturday, Oct. 2
Return to United States (B)
Transfer to airport for flights home.
