Welcome to the Walk Yah Yah Program

The St. Olaf Employee Fitness Walking Program

The Walk Yah Yah board would like to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to those employees who have been walking on their own over this summer and into this fall! Keep it up!

The Fall 2011 program will be the St.Olaf Intramural Individual Fitness Challenge . This program will be all about MOVING in whatever form you wish and keeping track of the number of minutes you move. The program will run from October 3rd through December 11th. The goal should be to MOVE 60 minutes a day. You will register through the Intramural Web page and will report all of your information on the same page. Please feel free to continue walking! You can still chart your steps on your own to keep track of your progress.

STEP OUT OF YOUR OFFICE AND GET MOVING!

This program is brought to you by the Walk Yah Yah board in hopes that we will all become more active in our "movement" to become a healthier campus community. It is a workplace incentive program, sponsored by the college, to promote a healthier work environment, camaraderie, support, and a perhaps even a healthy competition among co-workers. The hope is that once we become aware of the number of minutes we "move" each day, we will be motivated to challenge ourselves to increase that time incrementally and make a purposeful choice to improve our health. By incorporating a moving program into the work day and the workplace, we hope that everyone will look for opportunities to choose fitness over convenience — by taking the stairs rather than the elevator, by running campus errands, by making time for a brisk walk before or after lunch, or by replacing an afternoon coffee break with a refreshing walk or dance. As individual health improves, the St. Olaf community will also benefit by being a healthier group with fewer sick days and insurance claims due to the improved physical and mental health that is a proven benefit of regular exercise. This may be a long-term lifestyle change!
