Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to the campus, where should we park, and where do we check-in?
Nearly all of the day’s activities, including check-in, will take place in the Buntrock Commons. The following link gives you directions to campus and a map of the campus, including the locations of parking lots. If you arrive on time, you will find a spot just north of the Buntrock Commons. http://www.stolaf.edu/visiting/maps/
Can I schedule an interview with an admissions officer? We are able to offer a limited number of individual interview slots after lunch. We will give preference on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can indicate your interest on the registration form.
*All available interview slots for Monday, February 20, have now been filled.
Can I schedule a class visit during the Junior Preview Day? Because of the large number of visitors during these days we are not able to offer individual class visits; we recommend you attend one of the sessions discussing a liberal arts education where you will meet several St. Olaf professors. You will gather a lot of information about our academic programs from them and you will have the opportunity to ask your questions as well.
I will not be able to get to campus until later in the day/I will need to leave before the end of the program. Is that OK? Absolutely. We recommend that you make the most of your visit by arriving before 9 am, stay through all information sessions, enjoy some lunch and then participate in a tour. However, we recognize that you and your family are busy and we therefore offer sessions and tours multiple times during the day, so you can put together the schedule that works for you. No matter what time you arrive, please check in at the Buntrock Commons Crossroads Admissions’ information table.
I have a strong interest in the St. Olaf music program. What does the day offer me? In addition to the information session on music and other fine arts opportunities at St. Olaf College, you are welcome to attend the open rehearsals by our ensembles. Upon arrival, you will receive a printed program listing the times and locations of all open rehearsals that day; these will take place in the late afternoon.
Can I schedule a meeting with a coach? You are certainly free to contact a coach any time and see if they are available to meet with you during the Junior Preview Day. We do offer an informational session on Athletics and Recreation at St. Olaf College where some coaches and student athletes will be able to tell you what it is like to be an Ole athlete: http://www.stolaf.edu/athletics/
I am a high school sophomore. Can I still come? Certainly. Just use the registration form and make sure to give us the correct year of your anticipated high school graduation.
Do families come to the Junior Preview Day as well? And if so, how many guests can I bring? Our prospective students more often than not are accompanied by one or more family members during their college visit. Whatever works for you and your family, also works for us. You can list the number of guests and their names on the registration form.
We are traveling from afar and need to stay at a hotel. Do you have any recommendations? The following is a link to hotel accommodations in or near Northfield. http://www.stolaf.edu/admissions/visiting/hotels.html
Can I schedule an overnight stay in a residence hall? We limit on-campus overnight stays to high school seniors. Hopefully, you enjoy everything you learn today about our academic programs and campus community, and will visit us again when you are a senior.
